influences

I don't want to rob any of you the ability to analyze and over-analyze my writing for potential influences (I love doing this for old books. I think you can't really separate art from artist, but it's a little more nuanced than many would suggest.) Anyways: a list, and you can make what you like of what you see.

  • gothic horror a la wuthering heights, frankenstein, dracula
  • ghost stories, particularly those by algernon blackwood, henry james, and oliver onions.
  • old french, polish, czech, & celtic fairytales
  • surrealism and existentialism
  • my own special interests of the interwar period and wetland environments
